Finally, DYED YARN!!!

Back in May for my birthday I got some undyed wool! I dyed a skein of it and I was too lazy to post it for a while. So here it is:

I followed a blog tutorial from Streets and YO's,which had not only an interesting title but a great tutorial!
Here it is: It's about 200 yards. And, I managed to get it all tangled, of course after tangling up the other skein even worse and not being able to untangle it in a day.

So we had some trouble getting it on the chair.

Then you have to soak it....

And then we bought too little Kool-Aid. We tried to dye it, but it came out really pale with one pack of each color. (We bought it before the tutorial was read. Actually, my mom did.) I didn't take a picture of that.

But here it is in big containers. I used like 3 packs each of these.

Then you cook it in a pot. Once the water is clear, it's done. Isn't that awesome? The yarn soaks up all the koolaid so the water is clear.

And here it is out of the pot. Look how pretty it is!

I will get around to felting the little bowl I've knitted, so look for that!

Altoid Tin Swap Round 2:: What I sent and What I received

In this swap, you send your partner a decorated altoid tin also with stuff inside. They give you five themes and you pick one to send them. We both had sea-related themes.

Here's what I sent my partner:I covered the outside with polymer clay and fish and a squid. I gave her a mini tin with a squid, some shells, and a keychain.

And here's the inside. The bottom has fish everywhere and the top has more fish everywhere. The bottom ones are clay but the top are plastic.

Here's what she gave me:

It has an octopus!

The bottom is really cool and metally.

The stuff in it: a shark pencil topper, a stingray pin, a little fishy bookmark, and a fishy book!

One Tiny Thing Round 4:: What I received

Here's what I received in the One Tiny Thing Round 4 swap from my partner Bigmouth.

This one's kind of blurry.... It's the top of the box. Apple pi. Heehee.

This one's the bottom of the lid and the bottom of... the box.

This one's the inside. It has lots of cool stickers and the bottom's all bumpy.

Even though it was one tiny thing, the box she sent it in was huge. You could probably fit Mitsy the weiner dog (hi grandma. don't bring mitsy over or I will try to see if she fits in the box) in there as well as the 50 plastic bags that padded my pi box.

Something really cool is that I got the package on March 14. That's pi day. Awesome, isn't it?

One Tiny Thing 4 Swap:: What I sent

In this swap, as in round 3, you have to make one TINY thing for your partner. Here's what I made for my partner Bigmouth:

Here it is attatched to her keys. The left half is made with changey-color embroidery floss, and the right half is made with polymer clay. Oh, and I have a story to tell. My brother was making frozen pizza in the toaster upstairs that I normally use, so I had to use the toaster in the basement that I've never used before. I know I had the right temperature and everything, but my brother said he smelled something burning, and it was my clay. It was all black and gross. So, I had to make another clay half. My dad says it wasn't callibrated right. I think it's just predjudiced against rainbowy clay flowers.

The COOLEST Science Fair Project Ever

I felted a bunch of swatches with different percents of yarn. I got an A! Yay me!

One Tiny Thing 3 Swap:: What I sent

Okay, as you probably know, in this swap you send your partner one tiny very intricate item based on their interests. My package got there very late and I was extremely worried that it wouldn't make it at all, and I forgot to take pictures before I sent, but finally my partner recieved, so:

Ain't it purty? I used Lion Wool and felted it a bunch of times. I added a macrame handle, and embellished the flap with beads. The button is polymer clay. Then I ironed on a lemon and sewed on a t (for Tiffany).

Bi-weekly Beads ~ February 17

Okay, I'm going to try this new bead thing and see how it goes. Here are all the things I've made in like 6 weeks, because I hadn't thought of doing this for a while. For those of you who know polymer clay stuff, I shall put the type of clay and the techniques I used. Without further ado(is that even a word? Well spell check said it was so whatever), the pictures:

~Multi-cane set~ Made with Fimo clay, I used basic techniques (jelly roll, skinner blend, basic flower, kaleidoscope) to make a necklace on a tutorial DVD for a swap and just had to continue and make a set for myself.
~Blue and Green Keychain~ I used Fimo clay and made a skinner blend into a bunch of other stuff.
~Pink and Purple Swirls Necklace~ With Fimo clay, I made a pink/purple skinner blend, cut it in half, put a green/black sheet in the middle, cut some beads out of it, reduced the rest, made a flower out of it, and tada!
~Blue Rose~ Fimo clay, my first model-making adventure. I plan to make a little vase out of translucent (That might turn out like that "translucent glass" you can't completely see through. Hey, if they have the same name...)
~Silver and Black Bullseye Lace~ I made a bullseye lace cane and formed it into shapes. I had some other silver and black beads I bought I really liked, so I used those too. This is a really good one, so I may sell it at a store that has asked about buying my stuffs.

This is my first clay thingy ever! It's fimo clay, and all the beads are just solid colors except for the two on the very ends (swirlyness) and the middle one (kaleidoscope). Click on the pictre for a big version of the middle bead!
This is just a skinner blend with blue and translucent. But I thought it was white! So I don't like it as much as I could have.
This is a keychain from fimo clay. I cut big slices from some scraps/ mini canes (3 of them, actually) put them in the pasta machine, and braided them. Yeah, braided. Then I folded up the braid into a cube, cut slices and it was all swirly!

In this swap, you tell your partner what crafts you do, they pick one of those, and you make something for them using that craft. Then you give them how to instructions on how to make it. I sent a rose necklace and matching earrings, and a how to make polymer clay beads DVD.

Bi-weekly Jewlery Update

Bluey and Purpley Spiral Hat

I liked the homespun yarn from my Aunt so much that I just had to make something right away: A spiraly hat!! It's reversible: on one side the blue pops out and on the other side the purple pops out. You can't really tell which side is popping out in the pictures, it's sort of like an optical illusion. Just take my word for it. I usedthis free pattern without the pompom. I also made the blue stripes reverse stockinette and the purple stockinette, which made the blue pop out, and vice versa on the wrong side. That's what made it reversable.

Next on the to-do list: a spiral scarf in this yarn!

Giguntic Felted Bag Finally Finished!

Lots of alliteration there in the title... but I did finish it!! I altered this pattern. (pdf file) I made the bottom twice as wide and twice as tall, picked up double the stitches, and did double decreases before and after the markers when working the body of the bag. I also added a flap to it and used 10 stitch handles. I just knitted the handle until it was long enough, no i-cords or twisting. So, here is my mom wearing it: And here's a closeup: Yay!!

Today I get to go to the senior center and have a knitting christmas party for 2 hours!! I finally took pics of my first pair of socks!! I used this free pattern and Red Heart Luster Sheen. I would have taken them earlier except that the socks weren't in my sock drawer nor were they in the dirty or clean laundry baskets. Apparently they were in my hamper because they were clean the next day.

If you've seen the Weezer Bag, Weezer iPod Case, or the Weezer Keychain, you know that in this swap, you tell your partner what your favorite band is, and they make you something with your band on it. you make something with theirs. I recieved a stenciled shirt with my favorite band flyleaf's logo on it.

New Style!!

I finally got around to constructing a new style and new looks. It may be too bright and blind some of you, but it's my blog and that's the way I like it. It took me like 1 hour to mess with the CSS & stuff, and I'm happy with it. So puleeeze don't comment saying you are blinded. I'm not. I'm happy. =)=)=)=)

Felted Bag Story

Ok, so I just resarted a felted bag I'm making. You're probably thinking that "felting will cover up a mistake". Well, it will. But not this one. It's my mom's christmas gift. She bought 2 skeins of cascade 220 and said they were 100 yards each. I found a pattern where I need 200 yards, but the patterns usually lie to me, and even if I have correct gauge I end up using alot less. So I thought that would be fine. But then I started knitting and realized that it really wasn't 100 yards that I had, but 100 grams. I had 440 yards. But that's not where the dumbness ends. After checking gauge, I started knitting. I started the pattern for the bottom of the bag, then decided to see how big it would be when I felted it. I read somewhere that if you felt something you should CO how many you want the actual size to be plus 20% of that. So I found 5/6 of the stitches and measured them. (Do a little math here!) They were way too short for the bag I was making. So then I thought that if I have 2 skeins of the stuff I can just double size all the stitch numbers & decreases. So I ripped out and started over. blaaaa

Yes, me making socks. Although I just learned to knit, socks already. All the instructions were clear in the pattern I used after I watched this video on how to turn the heel, pick up gusset stitches, and decrease gusset. So the pattern I got at this pattern generator. My gauge was 7 st/in and i put shoe size 5. Socks look fun, alot of math and shaping and complication. My favorite :).

I finished some camo hobo gloves for a christmas present for my cousin, but I'm not sure it will go around his hand. You cast on and knit for as long as you want the glove to go on your arm, and then you seam the sides together and leave a hole for the thumb. I can't draw a diagram in paint because I'm using a school computer so you will kind of have to guess what I mean. Anyway, so I think I dodn't cast on enough to go around his hand. I may have to pick up stitches. But I will put pics when I'm done!!

I finished 2 hats for my cousins, one in lion kool wool denim and one in red heart grande camoflage! I hope to put up pics soon. My camera is really bad, but I'm getting a good one for christmas... so there will be better pics by christmas... but I hate to use my camera becuase I have to take a picture like 10 times with different lighting and stuff, so I don't really like to take pictures if you know what I mean. So yeah. I'll take pics soon when I get around to it.

Pillows for My Cousins!

A bunch of people came over for thanksgiving, including my cousins. I made them pillows! Yay! My cousin Hannah, "modeling" her pillow: The pillow, up close and personal: This pillow was made with baby bee eyelash yarn and caron bliss yarn. If you can tell in the pictures, one yarn is in the middle, and one yarn creates the petals. But when you flip the pillow over, the yarns are reversed, the middle yarn is on the petals and the petal yarn is in the middle. Both the yarns are light blue. See this post for details on how to make it.
And my cousin Rylea's pillow (she wouldn't let me take one of her modeling): This is baby bee eyelash in lavender. Basically, you knit up to the part where the sides of the heart split and then you knit the two pointy sides seperately. Then knit again and sew together!

Mp3 Cozies!

After I lost my case that my mp3 player came with, I decided to make some new ones.

I call this one The Alf Cozy.
When you open it, you can see the screen!
And this one, Vision in Blue.
They were with some yarn that I got in the dollar section of my target, and they came in tiny skeins. The Alf Cozy was made with the red and orange variagated of the fuzzy kind and the blue of the funky fringe kind. I originally tried to change this pattern and make it smaller so it would fit mine, but I ended up just making a new pattern altogether. I got rid of the screen part and made the part that you put the flap over smaller, so you could just see the screen. I made the earphones hole, and it's working out great.

Clock!

I just read a thread on Craftster and it was titled "What to do with old AOL cds." Someone suggested a clock and I just remembered I made one over the summer. Everybody thinks that all the wires and stuff are what makes the clock work and then I show them the back and they go "oohhhhhh. I see." You basically stick the clockwork part through, add some batteries, and stick the clock on. Then you put ont some stuff to use as the numbers. I like on the 12, 3, 6, and 9 the capacitors, and I don't know if you can tell, but there are resistors between the sticks on the capacitors. Those were hard to glue on!

Talk about recycling! I was pretty bored yesterday so I cut a King Soopers bag into little strips. There is a strategic way of doing this, but I forgot to take pictures while in the process. If I do it again, I promise a mini tute! Anyway, then I tied all the little strips together!

Favorite Band Swap::What I sent

Hello people! This is my first swap on craftster and I wanted to post what I made. Swaps are where you tell someone some stuff about yourself according to the guidelines. The guidelines for this swap were to send someone something about their favorite band. Then you make something according to their interests and mail it to them. My partner's favorite band was Weezer. What I made:

A bag! I made a button loop closure and a strap. Closeup of the Weezer Logo I stitched on the flap:
And a little coin purse/iPod cozy/thingy:
You probably can't tell, but I had a button hole closure and 2 black beads and two red W beads on the flap.
~My knitted stuff in the swap is in red and black red heart yarn. The bag was basic intarsia and the coin purse was two colors knitted together.~

I made a keychain with those beads you put on the pegboards and weld together with an iron.

These are all double knit so one side is the reverse side of the other. (So I made 3 hotpads, not 6) My puppy just destroyed the tree yesterday so :( me sad. Oh well. Anyway, I used peaches and cream yarn (just the same as sugar and cream, but my hobby lobby was closed and desperate me went to wal-mart) in the red variagated (did I spell that even close to correctly?) and the green variagated.

I am (was) making the flower washcloth from Weekend Knitting. I did all the petals and about ten rounds in the middle. Then she grabbed it and pranced around the house with it. About 4 stitches came off the needles and were turning into little ladder stitches. Not much of a problem, just fix with a crochet hook, right? WRONG!! I tried fixing it like that and then the end of the yarn was attatched to the first stitch on the right needle, but then looped over and was attatched to about the tenth stitch on the left needle. I tried many ways to fix it but NNOOOOOO.... it just had to get even worse. I tried inserting my needle into a different row farther down. It worked, until the end, when alot more of those loopy things appeared. I thought the stitches between the loopies were not knitted enough, but I couldn't fix it. So I had to rip the whole thing out and start over. Since you knit the petals seperately and then break the yarn and knit a new one, I ended up with one big ball of yarn and 4 little ones. *Sigh*....

Tube Scarf!

I made this tube scarf using prettyful yarn bee soft delight yarn in dark blue and size 11 circular needles. I casted on 40 stitches and did ribbing for like 3 inches, then decreased to 30 stitches and did 3 more inches of ribbing, then decreased down to 20 stitches and worked until almost the end, increased to 30, worked 3 inches, increased to 40, worked 3 more inches, and finally bound off.

The scarf (kinda looks like one of those magnetic ribbons people stick to their cars)

Flowery Things

I made this pretty flower washcloth from a pattern from a book called Weekend Knitting by Melanie Falick. She described the way you knit it as reverse bloom style. First you knit the five petals with gradual increases from the bottom in, then you connect them and knit them in the round, with gradual decreases, to the middle.

I used Lion Brand Microspun and used like 5/8 of a skein. (An acrylic yarn that absorbs water, yay!)

I also made a pillow with this pattern.

I sewed two washcloths together and stuffed it. Made this with Red Heart.

Magnetic knit letters

I made knitted magnets for my locker.

It says flyleaf.

To make, CO 10 st. in color 1 w/ size 3 needles. Work for 10 rows. Cover up letter stitches with color 2. Repeat with each letter, inversing colors. NOT A SLIP STITCH MOSAIC OR INTARSIA! Then I stuck pieces of magnet tape to the back.

Come up with your own creative letter charts to use. I'm not telling mine.

Furry Greenness!

I made this furry green set for me.

I made all of it with about 5 oz (almost 4 balls) total of canon bliss yarn. (The light green color)

The scarf I made with a simple k1 p1 rib the whole way down with size 8 needles. It took 3 oz.

The hat I made with Bev's Basic Hat Pattern without the pompom with size 8 needles. It took about 1.75 oz, a bit more than one 1.5 oz ball.

The mitts I made with a forum thread pattern from my favorite forum . I don't know if you can tell but I added pockets on them for a reason I have no idea of now.

Needles:Same as used for mitts
Gauge: Same as mitts
Yarn: Same as mitts

CO 11 stitches. Knit for however long you want the pockets to be minus about 3/4 in. in stockinette. Knit two rows garter stitch. Knit 5, yo, k2tog, K rem. 5. Do one more garter row. BO. Sew to mitt and do second pocket the same. Add buttons.

The mitts+the pockets took about 1 oz of yarn.

Baby Scarf

CO 30 st. in yellow. Work in garter stitch for 12 rows. *K 4 in yellow. Break off yellow. K22 in white. K remaining for in yellow. R2: K4. Break off yellow. P22 in white. Break off white. K4 in yellow. R3: Knit R4:Purl. Repeat instructions from asterick(*) until long enough. End with row 4. Work 12 rows in garter stitch. BO

Camoflage Set

I made this set for my brother.
Hat:

CO 34 stitches in MC. Garter Stitch 9 in. BO. Set aside.
Repeat in color 2.
Sew two halves together w/overcast st. Sew side edges then front.
Make tassel in each color and attatch to opposite top side of hat.

Hobo Gloves:

From a forum thread on my favorite craft forum. I used size 8 needles.

I used bernat camoflage yarn for both things.

I made this fishing-type hat for my dad with this pattern I made up: CO 144 stitches on a circular needle. When circular is too small switch to dpns. *Work for three rounds in stockinette. Knit 8 stitches. Make an 8 stictch Cable. Knit 16. Do an 8 stitch cable. Knit 16. Make an 8 stictch Cable. Knit 16. Do an 8 stitch cable. Knit 16 Make an 8 stictch Cable. Knit 8. Work another round in stockinette.* Repeat the rounds between stars for four inches. Work a decreasing row by knitting 2 together all the way around. Remaining stitches:72 [Work for three rounds in stockinette. Knit 4 stitches. Make an 4 stictch Cable. Knit 8. Do an 4 stitch cable. Knit 8. Make an 4 stictch Cable. Knit 8. Do an 4 stitch cable. Knit 8 Make an 8 stictch Cable. Knit 4. Work another round in stockinette.] Repeat rounds between brackets for another 4 inches. Put stitches on a set of double pionted needles. Work another round of decreasing by knitting 2 together the whole round. Remaining stitches:36. Work 2 rounds in stockinette. Decrease one row by knitting two tocether for the whole round. Remanining stitches:18. Work 2 more round in stockinette. Decrease for one row by knitting two together for one round. Remaining stiches:9. Work one more round in stocinette. Take stitches off of needles. Thread yarn through. Tie yarn and weave in loose ends.

Rememer: The cap is supposed to curl at the bottom.

This pattern makes an adult sized hat. To make a child sized hat, CO 72 stitches and start at the first bracket( [ ) in the pattern. IMPORTANT: When Making a child sized hat, instead of doing the instructions between brackets for four inches, do them for 8.

I did this pattern in Bernat camoflage yarn.
